Fleas and ticks are things that you don’t want to have to deal with, and that you certainly don’t want to have in your yard at any time. There are many things that you can do to make sure that you don’t have a problem with fleas and ticks in your yard. If you can rid them from your yard, you are going to have a better chance of making sure they don’t’ get in your home. Fleas and ticks in your home can be very detrimental, so it is best if you can keep them out.

The first step to getting rid of fleas and ticks in your yard as well as your home is to make sure that none of your animals are carrying them. You should apply some sort of flea and tick preventative to all of your dogs and cats. Remember that both can be very harmful, so if there are ticks in your area you need to be sure to protect for both.

Your next step in making sure your home and yard are completely free of fleas and ticks is to start in your home. Vacuum everything in your house that might carry fleas and ticks. This includes your floors as well as your furniture – couches, chairs, cushions, everything that could carry the pests. Remember to do your baseboards as well. As soon as you are done vacuuming, get rid of the bag, right away. Don’t shampoo your carpets if you are trying to rid yourself of fleas and ticks, because this will create a moist environment. Fleas and ticks thrive in humidity, and so if you do your carpet shampooing, you’ll actually be attracting them.

The next step would be for you to spray your home and your yard. Make sure that you are spraying everywhere, including the baseboards of your home and around as well as inside of the furniture. Make sure you are focusing on the areas where your pets sleep and where they spend a lot of time. Remember to also spray the doors and windows, so that they aren’t tempted to come in. Remember that your sprays should not actually be used on the animals that you are trying to protect.

The spraying should be repeated in about three weeks. This will kill any fleas and ticks that survived the first time because they were in the larva stage. Remember that you have your choice when it comes to the products that you use to rid your home and yard of fleas. Make sure that you are reading all of the labels, because the products you use nee to be animal friendly. Follow the recommendations on the products when it comes to removing the animals before you use them. The warnings are there for a reason – even if the product won’t harm an animal after the initial phase, it could hurt them right away. Be sure that you follow all of the instructions on these types of products whenever you use them.

Keeping up is one of the most important things that you can do. Don’t let a pest problem like fleas and ticks get out of hand, because you’ll find yourself completely overwhelmed. Be sure that you can focus on what you are seeing in your home and get rid of them, bit by bit. Once your home is flea and tick free, then you can work your way outward and concentrate on your yard. However, your animals always need to be protected so that they don’t start a new problem in your home. Make sure that you are always staying on top of what is going on and be sure that you have the right tools at your disposal.
