Probably one of the reasons why people are so enthusiastic about snorkeling and scuba diving is they not only see different kinds of fishes and other creatures, but they also get to take a look at unique colorful aquatic plants that you could not see on the land. These aquatic plants were known to live on the land before but they have adapted to live under the surface of the water or on aquatic environments.

Most Beautiful Flower

Probably, the most beautiful and popular aquatic plant is the “Nympheae Alba” or the water lily which could be commonly seen on ponds. These aquatic plants are also known to be hydrophytic plants or hydrophytes and they possess common qualities such as having a thin or no cuticle at all because they do not need it since they grow on the water, their stomata are open most of the time and have lots of it, possess a less rigid structure because the water pressure supports them, large flat leaves and air sac for floatation, small and feathery roots, and they have specialized roots which were designed to take in oxygen.

Like most of the aquatic plants, the water lily has the high structural material to reach high points for sunlight. Also, its leaves are tending to be wider without major lobbing to remain flat on the surface thus, maximizing the amount of sunlight received. Having a water lily in the pond would not only make a frog happy, but also could be a very pleasing sight for anyone.

Buying Aquatic Plants

Aquatic plants are automatically to be low-maintenance kind of plant since they do not require religious watering. You could buy different aquatic plants from websites like www.azgardens.com and find the rarest, most beautiful plants from different parts of the globe. Besides selling pond plants, the Arizona Aquatic Gardens also offers a wide range of aquatic plants like real plants that you could put in to your aquarium for your pet fishes and for you to enjoy. They not only help in beautifying, they also create a best dwelling place for your fishes which your eyes would enjoy.

From lilies to lotuses, and crypts and apons, the Arizona Aquatic Gardens offers a wide range variety of the aquatic plants that you may need to beautify your garden or your fish tank. You may contact them by visiting their website or calling (520)742-FISH or email them and make your orders.

Some things are taken for granted and the beauty of the simplicity of a pond is one of them. Having a pond in your front or back yard can provide a unique look that is difficult to duplicate with any other fixture. Ponds have a certain air about them that creates a unique sentiment that extends throughout all the property. When this is the case, the aesthetic and even commercial value of the property is enhanced. Of course, a pond will never reach its maximum potential unless is has an adequate supply of pond plants floating in its water.

Much like the pond will improve the look of the property in which it rests upon, pond plants will improve the look of the pond itself. Without an adequate supply or addition of plants, the pond becomes a somewhat vacant addition. In other words, the pond can not avoid an air of “It’s nice, but something is missing.”

When this becomes the case, then what value does the pond have? The short answer to this is zero. The pond was added, after all, to improve the look of the property. If the pond is not serving this purpose, then the pond becomes useless if not an outright detriment to what one is trying to achieve. So, to avoid this needless heartache, it is best to simply add some nice pond plants such as lilies and lotuses to the mix.

How Do You Know Which Pond Plants to Select?

The addition of which particular pond plants to add to the mix is going to be based upon two things: how good the pond plants look and what the pond owner’s particular preference is. Hopefully, the pond owner’s preference will not conflict with what type of plants will look good within a particular pond.

Follow the Instructions

While it may seem like an academic point that one needs to follow the instructions required for putting plants in a pond, there will be those who will try and wing it. This will ultimately lead to disappointment when the weeks and months go by and the end result is NO PLANTS!

Again, each individual plant requires certain specific tasks required to effectively plant the pond plants. If you do follow the proper instructions, however, then you will discover the great benefits that the addition of the plants will greatly improve the look of the pond. Again, simply follow the proper directions and you will reap the awards.

Sea plants come in various types and forms. Some types of sea organisms that you may consider to be a sea plant are not really plants at all! There are also types of sea plants can actually be grown in salt water or brackish water home aquariums.

Seagrass

One of the most common types of sea plants falls under the seagrass distinction. The plants considered seagrass actually come from four different plant families. All of these plant families are able to grow in salt water. These sea plants are flowering and grow in underwater meadows. These beds or meadows are essential to sea life ecology. Although this type of sea plant is not fed upon by most fish it does provide cover for many different species of fish. They also provide erosion and wave protection and may provide a source to fertilize soil. They were used in the past as a filler for mattresses as well.

Salt Water Aquarium Plants

One type of sea plant that can be used in salt water aquariums are Red Mangrove Tree plants. These plants grow to be around 6-8 inches tall and resemble a bunch of small trees. If they are purchased with roots a leaves already grown they are fairly easy to grow. This type of plant absorbs nutrients in the water to grow. This trait may also help to limit the growth of algae in an aquarium as they may absorb the nutrients that the algae would have used to propagate. This type of sea plant will actually grow in fresh water, salt water, and brackish water. A person using this plant their tank should be careful to remove all leaves that decay and fall from it from the fish tank.

Not Really Plants?

What may surprise you is that what many people might consider sea plants are not really plants at all. One example of this situation is seaweed. Many people may be confused as to this statement. The name of this organism is part of the problem. The term “seaweed” suggests that this life form is just that, a weed. However seaweed is actually closer in its form to an algae. They are not considered a plant by biologists and many scientists prefer to refer to this organism by the term “marine algae” rather than “seaweed”. They are not considered to be a plant because they are non-vascular.

There have been many studies conducted on the potential medicinal benefits of seaweed but the studies have been varied with their results.

Home aquariums can be enhanced by the use of live underwater plants. Underwater plants can be used in both freshwater and saltwater tanks, however the type of tank you have will generally limit you to the underwater plants that can survive in that type of water.

Having underwater plants in your aquarium can help it’s ecology in many ways. It provides a habitat for your fish to live and breed, it can oxygenate the water in the aquarium, and it can be used as a source of food for some species of fish. Live plants can help your aquarium as well by providing a place for baby fish to hide and grow and they are aesthetically pleasing.

Freshwater Aquarium Plants

Telanthera Osiris is one type of underwater plant that can be used in freshwater aquariums. It is a small herbaceous plant that can grow both on the ground and submerged in the water. This type of plant can be very colorful. It ranges from a dark green or purple in the top part of the leaf and is a light green to orange on the bottom part. This particular underwater plant may be challenging to grow in an aquarium.

The Lemon Bacopa (Water Hyssop) is a perennial underwater plant that’s leaves smell like lemons when crushed; it is a creeping herb plant. It has blue flowers and is a very popular aquarium plant. Its popularity is due in part to its beauty and in part due to its hardiness. They are grown very easily in an aquarium and the leaf colors of this underwater plant will actually vary depending on how much light it receives.

Water Wisteria is an easy underwater plant for beginning aquarium growers to start with. It is very beautiful and helps to keep your aquarium free of algae because it absorbs many of the nutrients in the water that algae needs to survive.

Java Moss (Willow Moss) is another type of underwater plant that is commonly used in freshwater aquariums. It is fairly easy to grow although it may take a while to get going. This particular plant is very popular with aquarium enthusiasts to keep baby fish safe from other fish and even cannibalistic adult fish. This plant is usually found tasty to shrimp and similar fish. It should be grown in a part of the aquarium that offers a decent current, as it can get debris caught in it easily which gives it a less than appealing appearance.

Creating a pond in your garden is one of the best ways to increase the beauty and the value of your property. Water plants add even more appeal to an ordinary garden pond. There are several types of water plants to choose from and a couple of considerations that you should take in account in you purchases. This article will review the six basic types of water plants, discuss options for both fish occupied and fish-free ponds as well as offer some optimal suggestions for both.

Six Types Of Water Plants

The six types of water plants are: water lilies, oxygenators, floating water plants, partially emerged plants, marginals, and bog-like water plants. Water lilies are also referred to as a Lotus or a Nymphaea. This queen of the pond flowers comes in a wide array of colors, mostly fragrant. Oxygenators are normally completely submerged in the garden pond. Floating plants are aptly named since they float along the surface of the water. Partially emerging plants have roots that sit in the bottom of the pond while the stems or stalks stick through the surface of the pond water. Marginals are intended for very shallow ponds and usually possess beautiful blossoms. Finally bog plants only need wet mud, and no water at all, to thrive in a garden.

Water Plants With Fish

Garden ponds that are act as homes to fish present more of a challenge when it comes to choosing water plants. Some plants, like water lilies, so not like rapidly moving water or splashing so they are best to avoid with very active fish like koi. Plant the roots in a surface of pebbles to decrease the chance of fish uprooting the water plants. Specially made mats or baskets also provide security for water plants in a garden pond containing fish. A special note, do not bring home any plants from stream of lakes that you may come across and fancy. These plants can grow rampant in the environment of your garden pond. This overgrowth can kill your fish and make your entire pond look sloppy. This can also happen if you over plant your pond forgetting that water plants do grow bigger and will fill in if your pond looks a little sparse at first.

Water Plants Without Fish

It is easier to choose water plants for garden ponds without fish. The only things you need to consider it the depth of your pond and the climate you live in. A good ratio of plants is two oxygenators, one water lily, and one bog plant per 10 square feet of pond space. Of course you will arrange your plants to be pleasing to the eye and not just to fit these recommendations. Additional flowering or floating plants can be used to give a more tropical feel to your pond. Without fish to be concerned with, a little overgrowth can lend a lush and beautiful look to your garden pond.
