Essential Gardening Tools For A Home Garden
Gardening is a great past time that is fulfilling and beneficial for us. Some of us are avid gardeners while others just like to putter around in the garden. For whatever reason we work at the garden, there are benefits that we can reap from it. Working at the garden needs some gardening tools and there are some gardening tools that are essential for gardening.
What You Will Need
A trowel is used to get the plants into containers and to weed the beds. This is one of the much used gardening tools. There are two kinds of trowels available, the wide and narrow ones. Both can be put to good use leveling the soil around a plant and for many other uses.
A rake is one of the more essential gardening tools and has many uses but its primary use is to sift through the soil to get the bigger rocks out of the way. You might try to get a bigger fork to have more reach but some gardeners prefer the smaller ones for better maneuverability. Another use for these kinds of gardening tools is for leveling the soil in beds and to break up bigger pieces of soil. A lawn rake is used to gather fallen leaves and other debris in the garden.
Another important gardening tool is the spade. The spade is used to move and carry soil and at the same time to cut through matted roots. These gardening tools may be redundant to small shovels or trowels but they have a different function.
Secateurs are gardening tools used to dead head flowers and plants as well as for fine pruning and trimming plants. These cutters are great for smaller branches and stems. For bigger branches and woody twigs, you will need different gardening tools such as shears.
Watering cans are also much needed gardening tools. They can carry water from your water source to the spot where you are working. Some watering cans have fine holes in their spout while others just have one small hole.
Some gardeners do not as much gardening tools as others. This is because some of the gardeners’ work can be done using our hands. Hand gloves are sometimes necessary when gardening to keep your hands safe especially when rooting around in the soil. Weeding in soft soil can be done with fingers and hands while you can crumble bigger pieces of soil with your hands.
Okay, I probably shouldn’t be talking about Holly right now when Christmas is so far away but I figured now would be a great time to think about adding some color to your yard during those winter months. The bright red berries, distinct deep green leaves, small white flowers and the diversity of the plant [...]
I’m sure that everyone, whether you garden or not, is aware of many of the gardening tools available. I mean, if you have ever been in a home improvement store, you have probably strolled past the aisles filled with gardening tools.
Even still, I would like to go through them for any beginner gardener out there. [...]
It’s not quite time to start winterizing your roses but I figured that now would be the perfect time to discuss the topic since you don’t want to leave your roses until winter is almost upon us. You will find that most roses should be winterized in November. More than likely they will still be [...]
With all the talk of fall that I have had over the last week, I have almost given up hope and started packing in my outdoor furniture. Of course, it’s not really time to start resorting to such drastic measures and I will have a few weeks left to enjoy my outdoors.
Still, even with that [...]
Fall is coming up very quickly and before you know it, kids will be back to school, farmers will be bringing in crops and you’ll be getting your garden ready for the winter. Among many of the tasks that you will need to do, one of these will be in planting your bulbs for the [...]
