Choose your plants well. For instance, ff you want to set up an herbs garden, so some research about the different types of herbs. If you live in an area where the weather is not really good, you might want to focus your attention on herbs that are endemic in your area. The good thing about using endemic species is that you will not really have such a hard time keeping these plants alive. Unlike exotic plant species, local species are already acclimatized to your place so they will not have trouble adjusting to the weather conditions.

Use organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. Organic fertilizers and soil conditioners are friendly to the soil and to the environment. Unlike chemicals, organic substances are easily broken down my enzymes in the soil and it does not leave any toxic residues. Moreover, organic fertilizer and soil conditioner restore the natural fertility of the soil, thus, you need not apply these substances anymore. Once the natural fertility of your soil is restored, it can already support the needs of your plants without any need of interventions.

Give your plants enough water. Just like any other types of living things, your plants need water. However, too much water can be bad for your plant. Just give your plants enough water to live on.
