Why You Should Learn About Pruning Climbing Roses
The matter of pruning climbing roses is one of great importance when it comes to taking care of roses in general, and so if you have roses of any kind in your garden, particularly climbing roses, then you are definitely going to want to read on so that you can learn more about this.
Pruning Climbing Roses
Although most people tend to think that pruning climbing roses is a difficult thing, it really doesn’t have to be, and so as long as you make yourself informed and knowledgeable on the matter, then you should have no problems and you should come out with some really great results.
When it comes to pruning climbing roses, one of the first things that you want to know is that if you do not prune them properly, that it will overwhelm the plant, and then the plant is going to most likely end up dying, which is obviously a bad thing.
So, when you go to start pruning climbing roses, the first thing that you are going to want to do is use secateurs to completely remove any very thin and dead or dying stems, and if the stems are very thick, then you can cut them with loppers.
Next you are going to want to take out any of the branches that are outgrowing their allotted space or ruining the overall shape of the plant, and then continue to improve the shape of the rose plant by removing about a third of the older stems, then prune flush with the ground.
You will also want to tie in new, vigorous shoots with garden twine for your flowering next year and prune back any sappy growth in order to properly and efficiently encourage flowering in the following year.
Finally you are going to want to finish by shortening all of the side shoots by about a third, and then tie in.
There are many other methods that you can use to do this as well, however this is without a doubt the most efficient and effective, and so if you are just starting off, then you are definitely going to want to give this method a try before you go with any other.
Just make sure that you take your time and have patience with any gardening method that you use, so that you do not get frustrated and so that you can come out with the best results that you possibly can.

It’s not quite time to start winterizing your roses but I figured that now would be the perfect time to discuss the topic since you don’t want to leave your roses until winter is almost upon us. You will find that most roses should be winterized in November. More than likely they will still be [...]
With all the talk of fall that I have had over the last week, I have almost given up hope and started packing in my outdoor furniture. Of course, it’s not really time to start resorting to such drastic measures and I will have a few weeks left to enjoy my outdoors.
Still, even with that [...]
